Matthew Negem, D.O.
Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon | Orthopedic Trauma Surgery | Hip & Shoulder Arthroplasty | Post Traumatic Reconstruction
Dr. Negem is a Texas native, born in Tyler, Texas, and raised in San Antonio, where he attended Central Catholic high school. He spent his youth in South Texas, going back and forth to his family's ranch, where he found a love of working with his hands.
He attended Texas A&M and he graduated in 2009 with a degree in Vertebrate Zoology. He was fortunate enough to be accepted to medical school at the University of North Texas in Fort Worth, where he was a Rural Medical Scholars program member. He was accepted into an orthopedic residency on Long Island at NorthWell Health, where he discovered his love for orthopedic trauma and fracture surgery. He was attracted to trauma because of the highly complex surgery and fast-paced environment that comes with working at a trauma center. His residency involved training at multiple level 1 and level 2 trauma centers across Long Island. He then chose to continue his training by completing a 1-year trauma fellowship at The Hughston Clinic under the tutelage of Drs. Robert Harris and John Floyd. He spent 2 years as an attending physician at a level 1 trauma center in Central Illinois. As one of only two orthopedic traumatologist, he saw and became proficient at caring for an extensive number of complex and devastating injuries, including pediatric trauma.
He joined the South Texas Bone+ Joint orthopedic trauma department at Christus Spohn to help further advance fracture care and meet patient needs throughout our Coastal Bend communities. Dr. Negem is very passionate about acute fracture care as well as nonunions, malunions, and deformity correction surgery and continues to learn as much as he can about these topics. In his free time, Dr. Negem enjoys hunting and fishing, weightlifting, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
